Veterinary Care Assistant

About the Role

This full-time position offers a welcoming entry point into veterinary practice. You'll work Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts with a 30-minute lunch break, plus one Saturday per rotation (9am to 5pm), supporting both clinical and client care teams across a modern, purpose-built practice.

You'll gain hands-on experience with a varied small animal caseload while working alongside an experienced clinical team in an environment where learning and development are genuinely encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent care and attention to patients in kennels and recovery areas
• Support the clinical team with daily practice operations
• Prepare and maintain consulting rooms and clinical areas to high standards
• Assist with patient handling, restraint, and preparation for procedures
• Feed, walk and care for inpatients throughout the day
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all practice areas
• Support stock management and general practice duties
• Contribute to administrative and client-facing tasks
• Deliver friendly and professional service to clients

Requirements

• Genuine passion for animal welfare
• Previous experience working with animals (preferred but not essential)
• Caring, reliable and enthusiastic approach
• Ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team
• Organised, proactive nature and comfort working in a busy environment
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Confidence handling animals or keen willingness to develop these skills
• Commitment to learning and developing within the profession

About the Practice

Staines Vets for Pets is a modern, purpose-built small animal practice with over 30 years of combined clinical experience. The team comprises one full-time veterinary surgeon, three registered veterinary nurses (including the practice owner and practice manager), and two client care assistants. The practice has created a positive, supportive culture where knowledge-sharing and continuous learning are encouraged.

The practice is fully equipped with in-house laboratory, digital and dental X-ray facilities, dedicated dental suite, separate operating theatre, ultrasound, tonometry, and glass-fronted kennels. Vets for Pets is part of the Pets at Home group.
