Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a daytime-only opportunity for an experienced vet to join a well-established, standalone small animal practice in Halesowen. The clinic operates 8am to 7pm weekdays only with no weekend or OOH commitments. You'll work alongside a skilled clinical team and experienced nursing staff, supported by a structured diary that guarantees at least one operating day per week and scheduled catch-up slots every 60 to 90 minutes.

There's genuine scope to develop into a senior role, mentoring junior colleagues while maintaining complete clinical freedom. The practice is pursuing zero pain accreditation, and your involvement in this initiative would be valued. Consultation lengths are sensible at 15 minutes standard with 30 minutes available when needed, and you'll finish on time daily with notes allocated into your working hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical consultations and surgical care across a varied small animal caseload (predominantly dogs and cats, with occasional rabbits and small furries)
• Lead surgical procedures with access to comprehensive on-site equipment including dental x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, Kyon TPLO, harmonic scalpel, and K-laser
• Contribute to maintaining high clinical standards across the practice
• Mentor junior colleagues as you progress into a senior role (optional development pathway)
• Support the practice's zero pain accreditation goals
• Manage emergency and same-day appointments within a well-organised schedule

Requirements

• Over 2 years post-qualification experience
• RCVS registration
• Strong surgical and medical skills or genuine enthusiasm to develop further
• Genuine care for animal welfare and enthusiasm for your role
• Positive attitude with good communication skills and a growth mindset
• Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team

About the Practice

Halesowen Vets for Pets is a locally owned, standalone small animal practice established over 8 years ago. It's run by practice owners Michelle and Ian, both highly experienced surgeons with Michelle holding a certificate qualification and Ian in the final stages of completion. The practice is supported by a skilled nursing team led by a Head Nurse (5+ years with the practice), plus a VCA, Client Care Advisors, and a Practice Manager who is also an RVN.

The caseload is varied with a high proportion of insured clients. The clinic has excellent equipment for in-house care, including dental x-ray, laparoscopy, endoscopy, Kyon TPLO, harmonic scalpel, and K-laser. A quality referral hospital is within 45 minutes if specialist care is needed. The practice is working towards zero pain accreditation and actively supports staff development and continuous professional development. Bank holidays are worked on a rota basis only.
