Ready to join a supportive team where your work-life balance actually matters? Wigan Vets for Pets is looking for a vet who wants flexible hours, gold-standard patient care, and colleagues who genuinely collaborate.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Saturday rota optional: 1 in 5 Saturdays, 9am–3pm. Hours and rota are flexible and open to discussion.

About the Role

You’ll be joining Wigan Vets for Pets as a Veterinary Surgeon in a busy small animal practice that genuinely prioritises work-life balance. The team runs 20–30 minute consultations with admin time built into the daily schedule, so everyone leaves on time. Saturday work is negotiable—if you’re interested, it’s a 1 in 5 rota (9am–3pm) alongside your weekly hours, but the practice is flexible and open to discussing what your ideal working week looks like.

This is a consult-focused role perfect for a vet who excels in the consulting room and enjoys collaborating with colleagues. The caseload is interesting and varied, with plenty of scope for clinical development. You’ll work alongside five other vets and an exceptionally skilled nursing team of eight RVNs—three of whom hold advanced diplomas, plus specialists in anaesthesia, ECC, and feline nursing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver gold-standard small animal consultations with a focus on patient and client care
  • Work collaboratively with the five-vet team and nursing staff on clinical cases and practice development
  • Contribute to evidence-based medicine and audit practices across the team
  • Participate in Saturday rota if desired (1 in 5, 9am–3pm)
  • Explore and develop your own areas of clinical interest with support from the team

Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with experience in practice
  • Strong consulting skills and excellent communication with clients and team members
  • Commitment to gold-standard patient care and evidence-based practices
  • Team player mentality with willingness to contribute to practice ideas and development

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on your level of experience
  • Generous CPD allowance to support your clinical development
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • All professional memberships paid
  • Access to exclusive reward hub with high street discounts and company-wide savings
  • Flexible working hours negotiable to suit your needs
  • Administrative time built into daily schedule to ensure you leave on time

About the Practice

Wigan Vets for Pets is a busy, established small animal practice with a talented multi-disciplinary team. The practice has five veterinary surgeons, eight RVNs (including advanced diploma holders and specialists), five receptionists, and three VCAs. The nursing team is particularly strong, with documented expertise in anaesthesia, emergency & critical care, and feline nursing.

The practice culture centres on gold-standard patient care, evidence-based medicine, and creating a supportive working environment where colleagues have time to finish their work on schedule. The caseload is robust enough to support personal and clinical development, and the team actively welcomes new ideas and collaborative problem-solving.
