About the Role

This 12-month diagnostic imaging internship is based at Vets Now Specialist Referrals, a multidisciplinary referral hospital and out-of-hours emergency provider in Glasgow. You’ll work under close supervision from experienced imaging specialists, developing hands-on skills across a wide range of modalities whilst supporting a busy referral and emergency caseload. The role includes occasional out-of-hours cover during bank holidays and Saturday morning discharge duties—manageable alongside your core training focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret ultrasound examinations under supervision
  • Assist with interpretation of radiography and CT imaging studies
  • Develop knowledge through independent study and case-based learning
  • Participate in case discussions, journal clubs, and teaching sessions led by specialists
  • Support the training of rotating interns and externs in diagnostic imaging principles
  • Contribute to clinical research projects within the imaging department
  • Cover occasional out-of-hours shifts during bank holidays and holiday periods
  • Participate in Saturday morning discharge rota for referral cases

Requirements

  • RCVS-recognised veterinary degree
  • RCVS registration or eligibility for registration
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Completion of a small animal rotating internship in a multidisciplinary referral hospital
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritise and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
  • High standards of clinical record keeping and professionalism
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to learning
  • Commitment to patient welfare and clinical excellence

About the Practice

Vets Now Specialist Referrals Glasgow is a busy private referral hospital and out-of-hours emergency provider in the heart of Glasgow. The multidisciplinary team includes specialists across Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Anaesthesia, Emergency and Critical Care, Orthopaedics, and Soft Tissue Surgery, supported by a highly skilled nursing team. The hospital is part of IVC Evidensia (Mars Veterinary Health).

The in-house diagnostic imaging facilities are comprehensive: two digital radiography rooms, digital fluoroscopy, two ultrasound machines (GE Logiq E10 and S8 cardiac), and a Siemens 32/64-slice Go.All CT scanner. All images are stored in a PACS system and reviewed using dedicated medical imaging software (CIMAR).
