About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position at Vets4Pets Fort Kinnaird, a busy and well-established small animal practice in Edinburgh. The role offers something increasingly rare in veterinary medicine: no out-of-hours duties and no sole charge work. With around 60 years of veterinary experience across the team, the practice is entering an exciting expansion phase in 2027, creating real opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape the next stage of growth.

You'll work a predictable 3-week rolling rota with longer working days (08:30-19:30) balanced by full days away from work. Typically three vets are on duty during weekdays and two at weekends, ensuring you're never working alone. Standard consultations are 25 minutes with protected diary gaps built in for case management, calls, and catch-up.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive small animal veterinary care within a supportive, collaborative team environment
• Engage in clinical decision-making with colleagues across surgery, dentistry, and imaging specialisms
• Work alongside experienced, proactive RVNs including nurses trained in dentistry
• Contribute ideas and take initiative to help develop the practice's services during the 2027 expansion
• Participate in weekly vet meetings and case discussions using the practice's digital collaboration platform
• Support the practice's commitment to high-quality clinical care and efficient systems

Requirements

• Registered with the RCVS (MRCVS) as a veterinary surgeon
• Strong clinical and communication skills with a solid all-round approach to small animal practice
• Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and contribute to team problem-solving
• Professional, friendly, and mature approach with a sense of humour
• Willingness to work within established clinical systems and embrace the practice's culture
• Previous veterinary experience is important, but mindset and team fit are equally valued
• Additional clinical interests (surgery, dentistry, imaging) or skills would be a real bonus

The practice is entering a significant expansion phase in 2027, which will create more physical space, grow the clinical team, and broaden service offerings. Leadership is hands-on and approachable, holding weekly vet meetings and fostering open communication through a digital collaboration platform. The clinic closes at 19:00 on weekdays, providing protected time for case catch-up before vets leave.
