Veterinary Care Assistant Apprentice

About the Role

This is an exciting 18-month apprenticeship opportunity designed to kick-start your veterinary career. You’ll be working full-time (40 hours per week, including 1 in 2 weekends) alongside experienced vets, registered veterinary nurses, and the reception team at a busy small animal practice in Warrington.

You’ll gain practical experience across all areas of veterinary care whilst working towards your Level 2 Apprenticeship in Animal Care and Welfare. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be learning from day one, supported by a team that values commitment and a willingness to develop.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain practice cleanliness, organisation, and standards across all areas
• Care for in-patients including feeding, monitoring, and observation
• Assist with clinical testing and sample handling
• Handle and manage a variety of small animals safely and compassionately
• Support veterinary surgeons and nurses with surgical preparation and theatre duties
• Perform deep cleaning protocols to maintain infection control standards
• Provide reception cover, speaking with clients in person and by telephone
• Support the wider practice team with general duties

Requirements

• Must have lived in the UK and/or EU for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date
• Not currently undertaking another apprenticeship
• Not in full-time education
• Able to pass initial probation period
• GCSE Maths and English at Level 4 (grade C) or above preferred (or willing to complete functional skills qualifications during apprenticeship)
• Must not hold pre-existing qualifications at the same or higher level in a similar subject to the apprenticeship standard
• Team player with a willingness to learn and get involved
• Reliable, hardworking, and professional approach
