£33,000 – £40,000/yr
Wirral, North West
Part Time
Dedicated OOH
Ready to join the Wirral's only independent 24/7 emergency clinic? This is a rare opportunity to work dedicated nights in a referral-level ECC facility where your clinical skills are trusted, equipment access is unrestricted, and you'll make a real difference to emergency patients every shift.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Dedicated night role: 7 nights on / 14 nights off rota. Shifts 7:30 pm – 8:30 am. 0.75 FTE (31–33 hours per week annualised).

About the Role

Wirral Pet 999 is the only independent, dedicated out-of-hours emergency clinic serving the Wirral and Chester area. This is a genuine night nursing role—not rotating shifts—where you’ll work exclusively overnight (7:30 pm – 8:30 am) within a multi-disciplinary, RCVS-Accredited referral hospital combining emergency cases with ongoing inpatient care for GP and referral patients.

You’ll be part of an experienced ECC team with full referral clinician backup available. The role is structured around a sustainable 7 nights on / 14 nights off rota at 0.75 FTE (31–33 hours per week), making night work genuinely manageable without burnout. Located on the Wirral Peninsula with easy access to Liverpool and Manchester via major transport links, this is a realistic and sustainable night position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing emergency out-of-hours phone calls and acute presentations
  • Triaging and admitting routine and emergency referrals overnight
  • Nursing GP and referral inpatients through the night shift, typically managing 5–15 patients per night
  • Providing high-level inpatient care including management of feeding tubes, catheters, transfusion medicine, and complex anaesthesia
  • Running in-house diagnostics and laboratory work with full access to CT scanning, endoscopy, ultrasound, drip pumps, syringe drivers and on-site transfusion products
  • Supporting home visits where clinically appropriate, recognising that compassionate emergency care sometimes extends beyond clinic walls
  • Maintaining meticulous clinical records and communicating empathetically with clients

Requirements

  • Qualified RVN with genuine interest in ECC and inpatient care
  • Confidence managing complex anaesthesia and critical patients
  • Ability to remain calm and methodical under pressure
  • Strong clinical standards and excellent record keeping
  • Excellent empathetic client communication skills
  • Team player who values close collaboration with day teams and other night staff

Benefits

  • Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 pro rata (based on 40-hour week) plus bonus scheme
  • BUPA Healthcare (includes dependents up to age 22)
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Supported CPD opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Competitive staff discount
  • Retail discounts via BrightHR

About the Practice

Wirral Pet 999 operates as the pet equivalent of A&E for the Wirral and Chester area. Housed within Peninsula Vet Referrals, the clinic is the only independent, dedicated out-of-hours emergency service in the region, providing 24/7 care when pets need it most. The facility is RCVS-Accredited and equipped to referral-hospital standards.

The clinic is built on principles of access, trust and continuity of care. There’s no restricted-access equipment, no off-site call centres, and an on-site daytime administration team supports night operations, allowing clinical staff to focus entirely on patient care. Night teams work alongside experienced ECC veterinary surgeons with full referral backup available.
