This is a rare opportunity to join Wirral Pet 999, the only independent, dedicated out-of-hours clinic serving the Wirral and Chester area. You'll work nights within a multi-disciplinary, RCVS-accredited referral hospital where emergency caseload sits alongside the ongoing care of hospitalised patients. With a 0.75 FTE contract (31 to 33 hours per week averaged) on a 7 nights on / 14 nights off rota, shifts run 7:30 pm to 8:30 am. The Wirral Peninsula location offers easy access to Liverpool and Manchester, making work-life balance genuinely achievable even in an ECC role.
Out-of-hours care here is built on access and good medicine, not restriction. You'll have full use of referral-level diagnostics including CT scanning, endoscopy, ultrasound, an extensive in-house laboratory suite, drip pumps, syringe drivers, and on-site transfusion products with Blood Sharing Scheme participation. No equipment is reserved for referral clinicians only. All calls are handled locally with on-site daytime administration support, allowing you to focus on medicine, not logistics. Home visits are accommodated wherever possible, because good ECC care is as much about compassion as clinical skill.
You'll be a confident, capable and experienced veterinary surgeon dedicated to delivering high standards of ECC care. Strong clinical judgement, excellent record keeping, and a calm, client-focused approach are essential. This role suits vets comfortable working independently overnight while valuing collaboration with referral and daytime teams.
