About the Role

This Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon role with Abbey Vets offers genuine space to develop your surgical skills, with 2 hours of operating time each day and a protected 2-hour break daily. You will be joining a large, experienced team in an independent, family-run practice, with no night emergencies because cover is handled by Vets Now.

The caseload is wide and varied, with 20 to 30 different procedures carried out each day. All surgery and hospitalised cases are managed at the fully equipped main centre, where there are always colleagues available to support you, so you will not be operating alone.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out small animal surgery with dedicated operating time built into the day.
• Manage a varied caseload across a practice that performs 20 to 30 different procedures daily.
• Work on surgery and hospitalised cases at the fully equipped main centre.
• Use the RX Works practice management system as part of day-to-day clinical work.
• Work alongside a large clinical team across the main centre and consulting-only branches.

Requirements

• You should be a confident small animal vet.
• You should enjoy surgery.
• You should be looking for time and support to develop further.

Benefits

• Salary of £60,000 to £90,000 DOE.

About the Practice

Abbey Vets is a long-established, family-run independent practice in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The practice has 1 main centre and 7 consulting-only branches, all air-conditioned, with a hydrotherapy and physiotherapy centre, advanced ultrasound and endoscopy, and surgery based at the main centre.

The company information also states that Abbey Vets has more than 30 years of experience in animal health care, was started in 1975, and is run by Tony Duffy with Sheila and Kim. The main Barnsley centre on Dodworth Road is open 7 days a week and has received RCVS Tier 2 approval.
