Love working nights and want to develop your exotic animal skills? Anton Vets offers a purpose-built facility with serious kit—CT scanner, ultrasound, dedicated exotic ward—and the flexibility to shape your own rota.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

Dedicated OOH night shift role: 7 nights on (7pm–8am), 14 nights off. Flexibility available to adjust rota or add daytime shifts if preferred.

About the Role

Join Anton Vets’ dedicated out-of-hours team as a Registered Veterinary Nurse covering night shifts (7pm–8am). You’ll work 7 nights on, followed by 14 nights off, with genuine flexibility to adjust your rota or pick up daytime shifts if you’d prefer a mixed schedule. This is a real opportunity to build a pattern that suits your lifestyle.

Your days will centre on inpatient care for a fascinating mix of species—from bearded dragons and rabbits through to penguins and everything in between. You’ll support the on-call vet with emergency cases and assist in theatre as required. If exotics are your passion, or you’re keen to develop expertise in this area, you’ll find plenty of learning here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient nursing care for small animals and exotics during night shifts (7pm–8am)
  • Assist the on-call veterinary surgeon with emergency cases and surgical procedures
  • Monitor and manage hospitalised patients, maintaining accurate records and observations
  • Support theatre work across two large operating theatres and the dedicated dental theatre
  • Utilise the practice’s advanced imaging suite and diagnostic equipment (CT scanner, ultrasound)
  • Contribute to the specialist exotic ward, delivering species-appropriate care
  • Work collaboratively within the wider Anton Vets team across three units

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • Current VDS and RCVS fees in good standing
  • Experience or genuine enthusiasm for exotic animal nursing (training provided for keen learners)
  • Flexibility to work night shifts and adapt to a rota system
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced emergency environment

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £35,000 (FTE) depending on experience, plus additional allowance for annual leave and CPD
  • Fully encouraged and generously funded CPD and professional development
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity pay
  • VDS and RCVS fees covered by the practice
  • Colleague discount on pet treatments and products, including free consults
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Flexible benefits including Cycle to Work scheme and Gymflex
  • Access to CVS ShareSave scheme—share in the group’s success
  • Structured career progression pathways: leadership, management, or remote roles available across first opinion, referral, and equine practices
  • CVS Nursing Career Pathway programme demonstrating lifelong career development opportunities

About the Practice

Anton Vets operates across three units in Andover (Units 11, 12, and 15, Anton Mill Road) and is part of CVS Group, one of the UK’s largest integrated veterinary service providers. The practice is purpose-built with exceptional facilities: 8 consulting rooms, 2 large operating theatres, a separate dental theatre, imaging suite, 6 wards including a dedicated exotic ward, CT scanner, and ultrasound—all the tools needed for high-quality first-opinion and emergency care.

The team is committed to professional development, with CPD fully encouraged and funded. Career progression is a real focus here, with opportunities to develop into leadership, management, or specialist remote roles across CVS’s broader portfolio of first opinion, referral, and equine practices.
