Clinical Director

About the Role

Step into a leadership position where your clinical expertise meets genuine influence. As Clinical Director, you'll oversee clinical standards across The Village Animal Hospital 24/7 in Caterham and its two branches in Merstham and Smallfield, alongside the out-of-hours service. You'll continue to work as a hands-on veterinary surgeon while championing high-quality patient care, developing your team, and driving continuous improvement across the group.

This full-time permanent role includes weekend shifts on a negotiable rota. The established OOH team and experienced Lead Vet mean you'll have strong support for managing out-of-hours commitments; the exact level of OOH work can be discussed based on your preferences and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership while continuing to work as a veterinary surgeon
• Inspire, coach, and develop colleagues to deliver exceptional patient care
• Drive continuous improvement in clinical standards, quality, and performance across all sites
• Work collaboratively with practice teams and regional leaders
• Champion company values and embed them into everyday practice
• Support practice growth through service development and continuous improvement initiatives
• Use financial information, KPIs, and business data to identify opportunities and drive performance
• Build strong relationships across multiple practices to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing
• Support change, innovation, and new ways of working

Requirements

• MRCVS registration and experience as a qualified veterinary surgeon
• Ideally, experience in and passion for leadership, coaching, and developing others
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to engage and motivate teams
• Commercial awareness with confidence interpreting KPIs and financial performance
• Collaborative and adaptable approach
• Commitment to delivering exceptional clinical care and outstanding client service
• Proactive mindset with passion for continuous improvement

The Village Animal Hospital 24/7 is a forward-thinking small animal practice operating across three locations: Caterham (main hospital), Merstham, and Smallfield, plus a dedicated 24/7 out-of-hours service. The team comprises veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, patient care assistants, receptionists, and practice support staff, all united by a commitment to collaboration, continuous development, and exceptional patient care.
