Veterinary Patient Care Assistant with Reception Duties

About the Role

This full-time Veterinary Patient Care Assistant with Reception Duties role is based across Pennine Veterinary Centre’s Harwood and Tottington sites, with the main base at Harwood. The hours total 40 per week, worked Monday to Friday on a varied pattern between 08.30 and 18.30, plus a share of the Saturday rota from 09.00 to 16.30.

You’ll be supporting RVNs and vets with patient care while also helping to keep the reception side running smoothly. The role combines hands-on animal welfare work with client contact, so it suits someone who is confident with people, calm under pressure and comfortable moving between clinical support and front-of-house tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Support RVNs and vets with patient care in the practice
• Assist with animal restraint when needed
• Walk, feed and clean inpatients
• Prepare emergency and operating facilities
• Carry out general cleaning and maintenance tasks
• Run internal lab samples
• Answer emergency calls
• Handle incoming calls and book appointments
• Respond to queries by phone, email and in person
• Greet and register new clients
• Process payments
• Use the in-house system to organise patients
• Manage calls relating to debts, belongings and refunds

Requirements

• Strong customer service and public-facing skills
• Resilience and a calm, kind approach in emotional situations
• Clear communication and genuine empathy
• Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning and handling, is essential
• A positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database systems
• Veterinary environment experience is preferred
• Right to work in the UK
