Veterinary Receptionist

About the Role

You’ll be joining Ayres Veterinary Hospital in North Shields as a Veterinary Receptionist, working 25 hours per week across Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Shifts run between 07:30 and 21:00, and the rota also includes a 1:5 share in the weekend rota, with either Saturday or Sunday worked.

This is an on-site, permanent role with some travel between CVS sites to cover annual leave and absence. A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

The position sits within a first opinion practice and is focused on front-of-house care, calm communication and efficient support for clients, their pets and the wider clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and book appointments
• Handle client queries by phone, email and in person
• Welcome and register new clients at reception
• Process insurance forms and manage payments
• Dispense medication where required
• Use the practice system to organise patients
• Liaise with other veterinary practices about patient needs and queries
• Support clients with empathy during difficult moments while staying professional
• Make calls relating to debts, belongings and refunds

Requirements

• Previous receptionist experience is required
• Veterinary reception experience is a bonus
• A full UK driving licence is essential
• Access to your own vehicle is essential
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Resilience when dealing with emotional situations
• Genuine empathy and a positive attitude
• Good teamwork skills
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and database systems
