Orthopaedic Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a small animal Veterinary Surgeon role with a strong surgical focus, particularly in orthopaedic and soft tissue advanced procedures. The practice is looking for someone with experience in fracture fixation and cruciate ligament surgery, and an interest in arthroscopy would be useful.

You’ll be joining a team with 17 small animal vets, working with complex surgery cases and overnight facilities for post op care. The role is based in Newbury, a vibrant town with good transport links and countryside nearby.

The typical full time rota is 4 days a week, with OOH shared evenly across a large team. At present, that rota is 1 in 15 nights and 1 in 7 weekends, with discussions open on how this can work for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead orthopaedic and soft tissue advanced procedures within a small animal caseload.
• Manage surgical cases including fracture fixation and cruciate ligament surgery.
• Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver patient and client care.
• Contribute to the clinical development of colleagues while developing your own skills and interests.
• Support post operative care using the practice’s overnight facilities.

Requirements

• A Veterinary degree and RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
• Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
• Experience with fracture fixation and cruciate ligament surgery.
• A strong interest in surgery, with a certificate in small animal surgery ideally welcomed.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to learning.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
