Equal share of out of hours rota, currently 1 in 7, with a second vet on call each week night and a separate stud rota for weekends. A day off in lieu is given for working a weekend.
This seasonal Equine Stud Veterinary Surgeon role runs from January 2027 to July 2027 and offers a varied mix of stud medicine, ambulatory work and hospital-based cases. You will be joining Fyrnwy Equine Hospital, a well-established practice with a Tier 3 equine hospital and an ambulatory branch serving Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales.
The caseload includes Thoroughbred and Sports Horse studs, stallion centres and some individual breeders. The role also includes embryo flushing and barren mare work up, with opportunities to develop your own areas of interest and follow through your own cases.
Fyrnwy Equine Hospital is a specialist equine practice with a long-established background in horse care. It was established in 1978 as Bron Fyrnwy Equine Clinic, and from January 2003 it has been based at a purpose-built site in Baschurch, Shrewsbury.
The practice combines an ambulatory equine service with a fully equipped surgical facility. The team includes European boarded specialists in surgery and medicine, three equine nurses, one student vet nurse and 11 support staff members, and it manages a mix of National Hunt Thoroughbred studs, sports horse clients and individual breeders.
