Registered Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

You'll be joining the established Kingston upon Thames practice as a lead RVN, taking the helm of a well-respected GP clinic set in a historic period building with modern facilities including dental services and digital x-ray. This 4-day week role (Wednesdays off) offers a rare blend of autonomy and support: you'll work alongside a full-time sole charge vet and a keen veterinary nursing assistant you'll mentor and develop.

The practice serves a loyal, long-standing client base many of whom have been returning since the 1990s. Your schedule includes a 1:4 branch Saturday rotation and 1:10 Saturdays at Stone Lion 24-hour hospital in Wimbledon (which handles complex cases and OOH care). You'll also be on-call for up to 2 bank holidays per year at Stone Lion, but crucially there are no overnight on-call requirements. Located just 6 minutes from Norbiton train station, you're within a 50-minute journey to central London, and a 10-minute walk from Richmond Park and the River Thames.

If relocation appeals, shared flat accommodation above the practice is available on a short or long-term basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver high-quality nursing care, maintaining and continuously improving clinical standards across the branch
• Assist the veterinary surgeon during theatre work, consultations, and patient procedures as required
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate hospitalisation records for all patients in care
• Manage patient comfort and welfare standards, ensuring appropriate monitoring and recovery care
• Clean, sterilise, pack and store equipment correctly and ensure adequate stocks of drugs, diets and consumables
• Supervise and support the veterinary nursing assistant with their training and professional development
• Act as clinical supervisor for student nurses
• Provide reception duties as required, handling clients and patients with friendliness and efficiency in person, by email and telephone
• Induct and train new staff members
• Maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment

Requirements

• RCVS registered veterinary nurse (RVN)
• Experience working in a general practice setting preferred
• Ability to work independently and lead a small team
• Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Salary: £35,000 to £39,000 FTE depending on experience
