Part-time Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This part-time opportunity is perfect for a vet seeking first opinion GP work without the pressure of sole charge or overnight commitments. Your average 20.12-hour week is flexible, allowing you to arrange your days (for example, a shorter Monday and full Wednesday 9am-7pm, or vice versa) to suit your lifestyle. You'll always work alongside another experienced vet on clinical days, so you're never working alone.

Rota commitments are manageable: one Saturday morning per month (1:3 branch rotation) and one Sunday per month at the nearby Mandeville Hospital (1:8 rotation), plus approximately one bank holiday per year. Crucially, there are no on-call or overnight requirements. Chalfont St Peter is situated in a peaceful, picturesque village location with excellent transport links: just five minutes from Gerrards Cross train station, putting London Liverpool Street within 50 minutes by rail.

The practice benefits from a long-standing, stable team including experienced vets, a senior RVN, and a knowledgeable reception team. Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides 24-hour out-of-hours support with advanced facilities including CT, ultrasound, endoscopes, and specialist clinicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver first opinion small animal GP consultations and clinical care
• Work collaboratively with experienced colleagues on all scheduled clinical days
• Participate in branch Saturday morning rotas (1:3 frequency)
• Contribute to hospital Sunday rota at Mandeville (1:8 frequency)
• Maintain clinical standards and engage with the practice's well-insured, loyal client base
• Support the nursing and reception team in delivering high-quality patient care

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon with UK RCVS registration
• Experience in first opinion small animal practice (any level from newly qualified onwards)
• Collaborative approach to working with colleagues
• Flexibility to work scheduled Saturdays and Sundays on a rota basis

About the Practice

Chalfont St Peter is a busy branch practice serving the Buckinghamshire village and surrounding area. The practice is well-equipped with three consultation rooms, separate dog and cat wards, ultrasound facilities, and a welcoming garden and decked outdoor area for staff breaks. The team comprises long-standing, experienced vets, an accomplished senior RVN, and a professional reception and nursing team, all supported by an attentive regional manager.
