About the Practice
Heath Lodge has been a fixture of St Albans veterinary care since 1904, originally serving working horses via the historic coach house (original doors still visible at the main entrance). The practice evolved through the 20th century under the leadership of Arthur Shenton and Tom Dean; Tom's son Stephen remains Principal today. Until 2001, Heath Lodge was a mixed practice caring for farm and equine patients, but transitioned to dedicated small animal care (dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small pets) in response to changing local farming patterns. This family-owned, single-site practice is proud of staff longevity and client loyalty—a reflection of the values-driven approach to veterinary care.
The team prioritises professional, compassionate patient care and staff wellbeing. The practice is well-equipped with modern diagnostics and a friendly, supportive workplace culture where clinical interests are supported and professional development is encouraged.
