About the Role
This is a senior leadership opportunity to direct the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of Manor Vets, a well established small animal mid-tier referral practice spanning 6 locations across the Midlands. The main surgery is equipped with a CT scanner and full surgical facilities, while a further 5 branches provide surgical capabilities and feed complex cases into the central hospital. You'll work closely with 2 experienced Clinical Directors and 2 Head Nurses to lead and support a dedicated team of 120+ staff, ensuring consistency and excellence across all locations.
This role balances clinical excellence with strong operational and commercial leadership. You'll set strategic direction, lead multidisciplinary teams, shape organisational culture, and drive sustainable growth. The working pattern is 40 hours across 4 or 5 days per week (your preference), with no weekend shifts required. There is a 1-in-6 on-call weekend rota (not required in practice) and one late evening per week until 7.30pm, plus mandatory Friday availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold overall accountability for practice performance, strategy, and culture across all 6 locations, balancing clinical excellence with operational and commercial outcomes
- Set and execute the strategic direction of the practices and hospital, driving sustainable growth and engagement across the wider team
- Lead creation and delivery of the annual business plan, actively seeking team input and supporting continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor, analyse, and communicate practice and individual performance; actively share best practice and contribute to wider area success
- Take full accountability for financial performance, including P&L management, budget delivery, and all financial requirements
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement through regular development discussions, performance management, and ongoing team support
- Drive exceptional client experience through engagement, service excellence, and consistent high-standard interactions
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role with accountability for operational and commercial performance
- Experience in healthcare, veterinary, or service-led environments is ideal but not essential
- Strong financial and business management capability, including experience with planning and P&L oversight
- Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams
- Experience leading through change and driving cultural or transformational initiatives
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills
- High emotional quotient and excellent HR skills essential for leading a large team
- Must be able to work Fridays and commit to the agreed working pattern
