About the Role
This full-time position offers daytime-only hours (8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, no weekends) working across two established practices in the Sunninghill and Ascot area. You'll join a friendly, experienced clinical team dedicated to building lasting relationships with pets and their owners, delivering high-quality first-opinion care alongside more complex orthopaedic surgeries.
Sunninghill Vets was established in 2006 by practice principal vet Johanna Headley and has built a strong reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care. The practice features large kennels, two consultation rooms, modern dental and ultrasound equipment, and orthopaedic surgical facilities. You'll have the opportunity to work across both the main Sunninghill site and the Sunningdale branch as it reopens, with plans for expanded consulting, dental, and x-ray facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for hospitalised patients and monitor anaesthetics during surgical procedures
- Prepare animals for surgery, including clipping and aseptic preparation; administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Assist with diagnostic procedures such as radiography, blood sampling, and laboratory tests
- Support veterinary surgeons during operations, maintain sterile surgical environments, and prepare and maintain surgical equipment and instruments
- Observe and record patient vital signs, monitor recovery from anaesthesia, and report any welfare concerns to the veterinary surgeon
- Communicate with clients regarding patient progress and provide advice on animal care, nutrition, and post-operative care
- Assist with nurse clinics including weight management, dental care, and parasite control
- Maintain cleanliness and infection control, manage and restock clinical supplies, and ensure accurate record keeping
Requirements
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively
- Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
