Student Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

Abington Park Vets is recruiting a full-time Student Veterinary Nurse on a fixed-term basis. This role offers exposure to both first opinion and referral work, giving you a broad foundation as you work towards qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

You’ll be based in Northamptonshire, with the practice describing the area as picturesque and well placed for a wide range of sporting, recreational and cultural activities, plus links to London and Birmingham. The team includes 13 Veterinary Surgeons, 18 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 4 Student Veterinary Nurses, 4 Kennel Assistants and a Lab Technician.

The working pattern is Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays, with a weekend rotation on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm and time given back in lieu.

Key Responsibilities

• Support patient care under the guidance of Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses.
• Develop clinical and non-clinical skills while progressing through your training programme.
• Gain hands-on experience across a range of nursing duties.
• Take part in the Saturday rota, working 8am to 1pm with time back in lieu.
• Drive the practice ambulance to collect animals when required.
• Carry out physically demanding tasks, including lifting and restraining animals and cleaning.

Requirements

• Commitment and enthusiasm for the veterinary industry, shown through prior work experience and or study.
• A proven track record as a hard-working team player.
• A genuine interest in animal care and welfare.
• A proactive and reliable approach, with openness to feedback and learning.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• The ability to manage time effectively while balancing work and study commitments.
• A full driving licence.
• The ability to cope with the physical demands of the role.

About the Practice

Abington Park Vets is part of inspiring vet care, within the IVC Evidensia group. The practice sees a variety of first opinion and referral cases and has a team made up of Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses, Kennel Assistants and a Lab Technician.
