Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal

About the Role

This is a Clinical Lead position combining hands-on veterinary practice with strategic team leadership at Steffan Veterinary Services, a well-established small animal practice set in the heart of West Wales. You'll work alongside the Practice Director to lead the clinical team while maintaining a strong clinical caseload of around 75%. The role offers genuine scope to influence clinical standards, team development, and practice growth in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.

Based in beautiful countryside near Lampeter, surrounded by stunning scenery and close to the Wales Coastal Path, this location offers exceptional recreational advantages alongside professional opportunity. You'll work full-time on a flexible schedule with shifts between 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday on a rota basis, plus Saturday mornings (8:30am to 1:30pm) on rotation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the clinical team in close partnership with the Practice Director
• Deliver high-standard clinical care across a varied caseload including consultations and surgery
• Mentor and develop less experienced vets, guiding case discussions and clinical workups
• Contribute to driving practice forward, team engagement, and positive practice culture
• Support business performance, operational success, and overall practice growth

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
• Proactive approach to learning with openness to feedback and development
• Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Steffan Veterinary Services is part of IVC Evidensia, the UK's number one vet care provider, trusted with the care of over 2 million animals. The practice is a well-established small animal clinic serving the Lampeter community with excellent facilities including surgical suite, dentistry with x-ray, in-house laboratory, ultrasound, and radiography.

The team includes a Practice Director, 2 experienced vets, a Head RVN leading a team of RVNs and Student Nurses, Animal Care Assistants, and a dedicated client care team.
