ECC Veterinary Referral Clinician

About the Role

This is a rare permanent, part-time opportunity for a Diplomate in ECVECC or ACVECC, or a residency trained Emergency and Critical Care clinician, to join Vets Now Specialist Referrals and Out of Hours in Glasgow. The role is built around ECC referral work in a busy private referral hospital and first-opinion out-of-hours emergency service in the heart of Glasgow.

You will work a 2 to 3 day week, plus 1 in 4 weekends on call, with time off to support an average 20 hour working week. Alternative working patterns can be discussed. The hospital is described as one of the largest and busiest OOH teams in the UK, with nights and weekends supported by high numbers of OOH staff alongside the ECC team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the diagnostic investigation and treatment plans for emergency referrals to the ECC service.
• Provide ongoing ICU care for patients under the ECC team's responsibility, including supervision of ECC interns and residents where needed.
• Support critically ill patients from other disciplines within the multidisciplinary hospital.
• Teach interns and residents and contribute to CPD delivery for internal staff and external veterinary colleagues.
• Help deliver in-house CPR training, support the Edge Teams when possible, and take part in hospital M and M rounds.

Requirements

• Veterinary degree with RCVS registration.
• EBVS or equivalent Boarded Specialist status, or Board Eligible status.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with referring vets, clients and multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or supervising colleagues.
• Commitment to evidence based practice, clinical governance and continuous improvement.
