About the Role

This full-time Referral Veterinary Nurse position at Highland Vet Referrals offers a varied and rewarding caseload in Inverness. The rota is 40 hours per week over 5 days, with shift times between 07:30 and 20:30, and there are no weekends or out of hours.

You’ll be part of a supportive referral environment where the nursing team works alongside experienced clinicians, dedicated VCAs and visiting specialists. The caseload includes orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology, pain management and ECC, with access to advanced diagnostics and referral services.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care for complex referral patients across multiple disciplines.
• Support orthopaedic, soft tissue and spinal surgery cases.
• Assist with internal medicine and cardiology cases using advanced diagnostics.
• Work alongside the visiting European Specialist Dermatologist with dermatology procedures.
• Support pain management cases and tailored treatment plans.
• Deliver advanced care for critical and emergency patients through referral and emergency services.
• Carry out nursing procedures including intensive monitoring, wound management, specialised imaging and laser treatment.
• Support complex medication regimes and provide detailed aftercare guidance for owners.

Requirements

• RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse.
• Clinical practice experience with solid foundational nursing skills in anaesthesia and inpatient care.
• Experience in a referral or advanced-care environment is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance and continuous improvement.

About the Practice

Highland Vet Referrals was founded in 2022 and is described as an exciting, rapidly growing referral practice serving the Highlands and Islands. It offers specialist surgical and medical services and is supported by a warm, supportive team alongside dedicated VCAs.

The practice is equipped with onsite CT, ultrasound, scoping, DR xray, a full IDEXX lab suite with EPOC, and in-house coagulation testing. It is based in Inverness, with the advert highlighting the city’s cafes, restaurants, live music, outdoor activities and family-friendly amenities.
