About the Role
This is a 12 month fixed term contract with Vale Vets in Dursley, offering a balanced mix of surgery, medicine and consulting. The role is for 30 hours per week over 3 days, with 1 in 8 full weekends, 1 in 8 Saturday mornings and one late shift from 12pm to 10pm every fortnight.
There is TOIL for out of hours work. After 10pm, you can choose to take emergencies for remuneration or pass them on to neighbouring external OOH clinics.
The role is well suited to a confident veterinary surgeon who enjoys working collaboratively and developing clinical interests within a supportive hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a varied caseload across surgery, medicine and consulting.
- Work closely with the wider practice team to provide high-quality patient and client care.
- Contribute to the clinical culture of the practice by sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
- Take part in the rota, including full weekends, Saturday mornings and late shifts.
- Support the ongoing development of those around you while continuing to build your own clinical skills.
Requirements
- A veterinary degree and RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
- Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
- A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development.
- Professionalism, reliability and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

About the Practice
Vale Vets, Dursley is part of IVC Evidensia. The practice has 10 first opinion clinicians, 8 referral vets, around 30 nursing staff and a dynamic management team of 5.
The hospital includes digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT and extensive animal care facilities. It also has 24-hour nursing cover, with on-call vet cover for hospitalised in-patients.
