Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Dorset Coast Vets is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and growing team, with your time based mainly at the Weymouth practice and some time spent at the Dorchester site. The role offers genuine clinical freedom, strong client relationships and a good work-life balance.

You will be working across a varied first opinion caseload, predominantly dogs with cats and rabbits also seen. There is a balance of consultations and surgery, and if you prefer, the practice is open to a more consult-focused role.

The team values shared learning and support, and there is already an ECC certificate holder within the group. CPD and further development are actively encouraged, including support to develop clinical interests and work towards a certificate.

Key Responsibilities

• Work across first opinion cases for dogs, cats and rabbits.
• Split time between the Weymouth and Dorchester practices.
• Handle a balance of consultations and surgery.
• Investigate and manage cases with support from experienced colleagues when needed.
• Contribute to a collaborative team culture and shared case knowledge.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
• Interest in first opinion small animal practice.
• Comfort working within a team that values case discussion and shared learning.
• Consulting-focused applicants will also be considered.

About the Practice

Dorset Coast Vets is part of IVC Evidensia and has practices in Weymouth and Dorchester, Dorset. The clinics are well equipped with digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy and an in-house laboratory, with access to hydrotherapy, laser therapy and physiotherapy services.

The team includes five Veterinary Surgeons, nine RVNs, a dedicated Client Care Team and a supportive Practice Director. The Weymouth site treats dogs, cats and small pets and is listed as rabbit friendly.
