Surgical Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

You will join Moorview Referrals as a Surgical Veterinary Nurse on a full-time basis, with part-time hours also considered for the right person. The rota covers 40 hours between 8 am and 8 pm, with a choice of either 5 x 8-hour shifts or 4 x 10-hour shifts, plus a 1:5 weekend rota made up of two 12-hour shifts with TOIL. Bank holiday and Christmas cover are also part of the role, with occasional support across other departments when needed.

This is a varied referral nursing post with exposure to orthopaedic, soft tissue and spinal cases. You will be supporting complex patients in a busy hospital setting, with opportunities to develop your skills in anaesthesia, analgesia, radiography and advanced imaging.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients within a referral surgery service.
• Support patients, clients and clinical teams across the surgery service.
• Carry out diagnostic imaging, including CT and radiography.
• Monitor anaesthesia and support patient recovery.
• Prepare patients for theatre and scrub in to procedures where required.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary hospital team.

Requirements

• Registered Veterinary Nurse status with the RCVS.
• Confidence and motivation to work as part of a team.
• Experience in clinical practice with growing confidence in surgical nursing.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively.
• A proactive approach to learning, reflection and continuous improvement.
• Referral experience is advantageous, but applications are welcomed from RVNs of all experience levels and backgrounds.

About the Practice

Moorview Referrals is a busy, purpose-built referral hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland. It offers referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC and cardiology, and is an ISFM Gold Standard practice working towards zero pain certification.

The hospital is equipped with four operating theatres, one with fluoroscopy, plus CT and MRI scanners, multiple ultrasound machines and advanced endoscopy equipment. It is part of IVC Evidensia.
