Veterinary Internship - Internal Medicine

About the Role

This 12-month veterinary internship offers structured exposure to a specialist Internal Medicine environment at Hamilton Specialist Referrals, a purpose-built referral hospital delivering cutting-edge treatments for small animals. You'll work collaboratively with three highly experienced Internal Medicine Diplomats, gaining hands-on experience in complex case management while building the clinical foundation needed for a residency programme.

The role includes varying shift patterns to support hospital operations, including 1-in-4 weekend cover for Neurology and HDU services and occasional out-of-hours work. This is an ideal opportunity if you're serious about pursuing Internal Medicine at postgraduate level.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate actively in ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical governance activities
• Engage openly with supervising clinicians, residents, and senior nursing teams in evidence-based case reviews
• Maintain accurate records and correspondence with meticulous attention to detail
• Deliver high-quality patient and client care under mentorship from experienced veterinary surgeons and support teams
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful clinical environment
• Support clinical development through attendance at teaching sessions, journal clubs, and learning resources

Requirements

• BVSc, BVetMed, BVMS or equivalent veterinary degree
• Current registration with the RCVS
• Experience working as part of a clinical veterinary team
• Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
• Clear, confident communication and collaborative approach to teamwork
• Positive, proactive attitude to learning and clinical development
• Interest in evidence-based veterinary medicine and clinical best practice
• Professionalism and resilience in a busy clinical environment
