Veterinary Surgeon, Small Animal

About the Role

Sunninghill Vets is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their established practice in Sunninghill, Ascot. This full-time role is based on Chobham Road and offers a daytime schedule (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm) with no out-of-hours commitment, giving you a genuine work-life balance.

You'll work with a varied first opinion caseload alongside some more complex orthopaedic surgeries, supported by modern in-house diagnostics and a friendly, experienced team who genuinely value both pets and people.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct consultations to assess animal health and diagnose medical conditions
• Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including neutering and soft tissue surgery
• Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
• Carry out diagnostic tests including blood work, imaging (X-rays, ultrasound), and laboratory analysis
• Provide preventative healthcare advice covering vaccinations, parasite control, and nutrition
• Maintain accurate clinical records in compliance with regulatory requirements
• Communicate clearly with pet owners about diagnoses, treatment plans, and costs
• Handle emergency and critical care cases when required
• Ensure high standards of animal welfare, hygiene, and clinical governance
• Collaborate with veterinary nurses and support staff to deliver consistent patient care
• Contribute positively to the clinical culture by sharing knowledge and supporting colleague development

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and current RCVS registration
• Significant experience in small or mixed animal practice with advanced surgical and medical capability
• Proven experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting veterinary colleagues
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
• Experience contributing to or leading clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
• Ability to manage clinical complaints and provide professional guidance in complex situations
• Professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the highest standards of patient and client care
