Night shift position. 7 on, 14 off rota. 40 hours per week on annualised contract. Dedicated emergency & critical care role as part of 24/7 on-site emergency provision.

About the Role

This is a dedicated night shift position for an Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon at Kings Veterinary Centre’s new flagship hospital, opening April 2026 in Melton Mowbray. You’ll work a 7 on, 14 off rota across 40 hours per week on an annualised contract, giving you genuine time to recover between shifts. The role focuses on emergency and critical care work, supported by a highly skilled nursing team and cutting-edge diagnostic equipment including CT scanning.

You’ll be joining a first-opinion, RCVS-accredited practice that operates 24/7 emergency care across six branches (Melton, Syston, Uppingham, Oakham, Market Harborough, and Corby). The new hospital itself represents a significant investment in clinical excellence, designed specifically to support exceptional patient outcomes and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver emergency and critical care services during night shifts as part of the on-site 24/7 emergency provision
  • Make confident clinical decisions, interpret diagnostics, and manage complex emergency cases independently
  • Work collaboratively with the nursing team to deliver high standards of patient care
  • Maintain calm, professional demeanour in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Support positive team culture and excellent client communication
  • Utilise the hospital’s advanced facilities including CT scanner, dual theatres, separate dog and cat wards, and dedicated diagnostic suites

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with ECC interest or experience
  • Strong clinical decision-making ability and diagnostic interpretation skills
  • Ability to work confidently and calmly under pressure in a busy emergency setting
  • Team player with collaborative attitude and positive communication skills
  • Professional approach to client care and relationship building
