Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a full-time permanent position in emergency and critical care at a Tier 3, ISFM Gold Status referral hospital. You'll work a rotating pattern of 5 days on, 5 days off, 5 nights on, and 10 days off—a schedule designed to give you genuine breathing space between intense shifts. During daylight hours, you'll be embedded in a dynamic multidisciplinary team; during nights, you'll work with dedicated experienced nurses and rotating interns, supported by on-call specialists across all referral disciplines.

Eastcott Veterinary Hospital serves a network of local primary care practices and accepts referrals for specialist input. Your caseload will span ICU management, emergency triage, and out-of-hours care. Beyond the clinic, there are many ways to stay connected: mentoring recent graduates, contributing to clinical development, joining the Green Team, or helping organise social events.

Based in Swindon, Wiltshire, the main site sits in Dorcan with additional branches in North Swindon and Old Town.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver critical care to ICU patients in a purpose-built unit equipped with the latest diagnostic and surgical facilities
• Perform emergency triage and manage acute presentations during day and night shifts
• Provide out-of-hours emergency cover for the local practice network
• Work collaboratively with in-house specialists and experienced clinicians across multiple disciplines to optimise patient outcomes
• Contribute to case discussions and clinical development within the hospital
• Support mentoring of recent graduates and junior staff as appropriate

Requirements

• MRCVS or equivalent RCVS registration
• Hold, or be working towards, a certificate-level Emergency and Critical Care qualification
• Demonstrated experience in emergency and critical care practice
• Excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues
• Proactive and positive attitude with genuine passion for ECC
• Strong team player who thrives in collaborative, multidisciplinary settings
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
