This is a full-time Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon position based primarily in Kilmarnock, with occasional shifts across the Mauchline and Beith branches. You'll work up to 40 hours per week between 8:30am and 7:00pm, with a manageable 1 in 4 Saturday morning rota (8:30am-1:00pm) but no out-of-hours responsibilities. The role is flexible and can be tailored to suit your career stage and personal circumstances, including options for reduced hours or consult-only work if preferred.
The caseload encompasses a varied mix of consultations, surgery, inpatient care, and hospital work. You'll benefit from purpose-built facilities, digital and dental radiography, ultrasound with colour Doppler, endoscopy, ECG, and electrocautery equipment. An in-house laboratory with full haematology and biochemistry is supported by a dedicated daily lab nurse. Standard 15-minute consultations allow extended appointments for complex cases, and Vets Now is hosted on-site for seamless emergency continuity.
Based close to the beautiful Ayrshire coastline, the practice sits within easy reach of Glasgow and Central Scotland, offering the perfect balance of professional opportunity and lifestyle. The area is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits including hill walking, cycling, equestrian sports, water sports, and golf.
MBM Veterinary Group carries a proud tradition spanning over a century in Ayrshire. Established in 1913 in Kilmarnock, the practice evolved from farm and equine work to become a comprehensive mixed animal veterinary group. In 2014, McKenzie Bryson & Marshall and Barr & MacMillan merged to form MBM Vets, maintaining traditional values whilst delivering modern veterinary care. The group operates across three branches: a purpose-built facility in Kilmarnock (Cathgate, modernised in 2004 with a surgical theatre and in-patient area), Beith (recently relocated to new premises on Kings Street with modern on-site surgical facilities), and Mauchline (extended and re-equipped in 2004).
MBM Vets is part of inspiring vet care, the UK and Europe's leading veterinary care group comprising over 900 practices and referral hospitals. The group is united by a shared purpose of happier animals and happier owners, investing in learning, innovation, and wellbeing to create environments where teams can grow in confidence, capability, and fulfilment at every career stage.
