Veterinary Care Assistant

About the Role

You'll become part of a genuinely independent practice with a tight-knit team of vets, nurses, and support staff who clearly enjoy working together. This full-time VCA position works 4 full days or 8 half days per week, including some Saturday shifts built into your hours. The role is wonderfully diverse, blending client-facing responsibilities with hands-on clinical teamwork.

This is not a training role; prior veterinary practice experience is essential. You'll need to hit the ground running and contribute meaningfully from day one. Key Responsibilities

• Reception and client care: taking phone calls, greeting clients and their pets, processing payments, arranging and rearranging appointments
• Providing routine preventative healthcare advice after appropriate training, whilst knowing when to escalate concerns about poorly pets to clinical staff
• Clinical support: holding patients during blood tests and minor procedures, running blood samples in the in-house laboratory, assisting the nurse team with anaesthetised patients
• Clinical preparation: preparing and restocking consultation rooms and clinical areas between patients
• Stock management: stock handling, stocktake, processing orders, and general supplies organisation

Requirements

• Proven experience working in a veterinary practice (this is not a training role)
• Ability to multitask and move between client care and clinical support seamlessly
• Strong communication skills and a genuine patient-centred approach
• Willingness to work some Saturday shifts as part of the rota

About the Practice

Millie's Vets is Congleton's only independently owned veterinary practice, led by four experienced veterinary surgeons (James, Cari, Grace, and Will, supported by trusted locums) and a team of five Registered Veterinary Nurses (Hannah, Kate, Nicky, Emily, and Leah). The practice also has four experienced client care colleagues and a dedicated support team including a practice manager, admin assistant, and domestic assistant. Currently, two or three of the practice's three existing VCAs are reducing their hours to pursue further training as vets and vet nurses, creating this exciting opportunity.
