About the Role

This is a part-time position working approximately 12 hours per week on a flexible rota: every other Saturday and Sunday night from 7:30pm to 7:30am, with alternating weeks off to give you real breathing space. You’ll be joining MiNightVet Maidenhead, a dedicated small animal out-of-hours hospital where no two shifts are quite the same.

Your work will span inpatient care, triage, anaesthesia support, and a range of other clinical tasks alongside a collaborative team of vets, PCAs and receptionists. You’ll never be working alone—a vet and PCA support you throughout every shift, making this an excellent opportunity if you’re passionate about emergency and critical care but value having backup when things get hectic.

The hospital is well-equipped with X-ray, dental X-ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy facilities, giving you access to the tools needed to deliver outstanding patient care. The team prioritises a friendly, collaborative environment where everyone’s contribution matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional nursing care to small animal patients presenting for out-of-hours and emergency treatment
  • Support all aspects of inpatient care, ensuring patients receive high-quality attention throughout their stay
  • Assist with anaesthesia procedures and patient monitoring during recovery
  • Perform triage assessments to help prioritise cases and support clinical decision-making
  • Maintain practice facilities and equipment to the highest standards, contributing to a safe and hygienic environment
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and pet owners to build trust and ensure clear understanding of treatment plans
  • Work collaboratively with the vet and PCA to deliver consistent, high-quality patient outcomes
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture where everyone feels valued

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Genuine passion for emergency and critical care nursing
  • Ability to work night shifts as part of a rota pattern
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Commitment to delivering compassionate patient care
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a supportive team environment

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £37,000 FTE (pro rata for part-time hours)
  • Annual leave allowance (pro rata)
  • CPD budget for professional development
  • RCVS fees covered
  • CVS pension scheme
  • Staff discount on products and services
  • Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support
  • Save as You Earn scheme
  • Excellent nursing career pathway and progression opportunities
