Join a newly renovated independent practice where your nursing skills are truly valued, your ideas shape the clinic's future, and work-life balance isn't just promised—it's built into the rota.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours or bank holiday work (outsourced). Weekend cover: 1 in 5 rota at Botley site only—Saturday 8.30 am–2.30 pm and Sunday 8.30 am–12.30 pm, with time off in lieu the following week. Late inpatient checks (approximately 10 pm) typically once per week when on late shift; shared with duty vet on weekends. Bonus payment for late checks carried out.

About the Role

Oxford Vet Clinic has recently relaunched following an extensive renovation, and you’ll be joining a modern, forward-thinking practice at an exciting growth phase. This is a permanent full-time position working 5 days a week across the Marston branch, with a manageable 1:5 weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday mornings only at the sister Botley site) and no out-of-hours or bank holiday commitments.

You’ll work in a newly designed space that prioritises low-stress environments for patients and team members alike. The practice has evolved from its feline roots to welcome all small animals, but the clinical standards, thoughtful handling, and compassionate approach that made Oxford Cat Clinic beloved remain at the heart of everything you’ll do.

Located in Marston, Oxford, you’ll be minutes from the vibrant city’s culture, riverside punting, and easy access to the Cotswolds and Chiltern Hills—with London just an hour by train.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care across the small animal caseload, applying the practice’s reputation for excellence in feline medicine to all species
  • Work alongside Lead Nurse Phebie (currently completing CertAVN in Medical Nursing) and RVN Shalayna (specialist in anaesthesia), contributing to a collaborative nursing team
  • Support the clinical team of vets, including Shivana (Clinical Lead, certificate in small animal surgery with orthopaedic development), Anna (completing certificate in ophthalmology), and Matilde (dermatology interest)
  • Participate in daily team huddles where your ideas are heard and cases discussed collaboratively
  • Lead or support condition-specific, nurse-led clinics as your interests and expertise develop
  • Perform late inpatient checks (typically one per week when on late shift, around 10 pm) and weekend inpatient checks shared with the duty vet
  • Work within 8-hour shifts across clinic hours: 2 days of 8 am–8 pm, 3 days of 8 am–6 pm

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • Strong commitment to high clinical standards and patient-centred care
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute ideas openly
  • Experience in small animal practice (experience level not specified as essential)

Benefits

  • Salary from £28,000, depending on experience
  • 5 weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays
  • Your birthday off as a paid day
  • Paid lunch breaks
  • CPD actively encouraged, with certificate courses supported and funded (e.g., CertAVN, specialist certificates)
  • Professional fees paid: RCVS and VDS membership covered
  • Bonus payment for any late checks carried out
  • Time off in lieu for weekend rota shifts (taken the following week)
  • Flexible rota design with opportunity to shape scheduling as the practice grows
  • Close-knit, friendly team with regular social events (pub meals, Christmas celebrations, team activities)

About the Practice

Oxford Vet Clinic is a proudly independent, family-run practice locally managed by its leadership team, who are on site and actively involved daily. Established from the success of Oxford Cat Clinic (founded 2006), the practice has undergone thoughtful renovation to welcome all small animals to its Marston branch while maintaining the sister Botley location as a cat-only specialist clinic. Both locations operate hand-in-hand, sharing the practice’s philosophy of stress-free visits, exceptional nursing care, and strong clinical discussion rooted in feline medicine expertise.

The practice combines modern facilities designed for efficient workflows with a genuine focus on patient wellbeing and team culture. Daily huddles, supported professional development, and a genuine commitment to work-life balance reflect the values of a family-owned business where every team member’s contribution is recognised and valued.
