About the Role
This is a varied nursing position in a busy, purpose-led environment where no two days are quite the same. You'll be part of a close-knit team at PDSA Edinburgh, a modern, well-equipped hospital serving pets and families in financial hardship. Working part-time (approximately 3 days per week), you'll deliver high standards of nursing care while championing the charity's mission and keeping owners informed every step of the way.
You'll get involved in nurse consultations, inpatient care, dispensing medications, and assisting in theatre work including Schedule 3 surgery. The role offers extensive practical experience across a variety of hospital areas, making it an excellent opportunity to broaden your skillset and progress your career.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct nurse consultations and deliver inpatient and ward care
- Manage dispensary duties and oversee patient admissions and discharges
- Assist with surgical procedures and contribute to Schedule 3 delegated nursing duties
- Develop practical skills through supervised procedures including suturing, simple lump removals, tail and toe amputations, and sedation monitoring
- Support diagnostic imaging including radiography under veterinary direction
- Collaborate with the veterinary team and colleagues to discuss cases and treatment plans
- Suggest improvements and efficiencies in how resources are used
Requirements
- Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification
- Confident communicator comfortable working as part of a close-knit team
