About the Role

This is a part-time veterinary surgeon position working 19 hours per week in a mission-driven environment where your clinical skills directly improve lives. You’ll work alongside an experienced, supportive team at PDSA’s Belfast Pet Hospital, seeing a diverse caseload of medical and surgical cases that will challenge and develop your expertise while helping pets and owners who genuinely need your care.

The role offers real variety—no routine day follows the same pattern. You’ll handle everything from routine health checks to complex surgical cases, always with the backing of knowledgeable colleagues and modern equipment. A flexible, part-time structure means you can balance meaningful work with the rest of your life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care across a broad spectrum of medical and surgical cases
  • Make evidence-based clinical decisions while discussing realistic, welfare-focused treatment options with clients
  • Work collaboratively with the wider hospital team, contributing to case discussions and shared learning
  • Build strong relationships with clients, explaining treatment plans clearly and managing expectations pragmatically
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of hospital services and champion PDSA’s mission of supporting pets in financial hardship
  • Utilise the hospital’s modern facilities, including in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon (degree and RCVS registration)
  • Adaptability and resilience to manage a diverse caseload
  • Clinical confidence with evidence-based decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with clients
  • Team player mentality with enthusiasm for collaborative working and shared learning
  • Pragmatic, welfare-focused approach to clinical practice
