Lead a collaborative small animal team at a modern practice in Swansea with a genuine passion for surgical medicine. Shared Saturday mornings only, strong mentorship culture, and the backing of a charity with real purpose.
Shared Saturday morning rota with time off in lieu; emergency cover only outside contracted hours.
You'll join PDSA's Swansea hospital as Veterinary Surgeon Team Leader, taking on clinical governance for the hospital and leading the vet team to deliver excellent, evidence-based care. This is a full-time permanent role working 37.5 hours per week with one office day built in. The practice operates 8am-6pm weekdays and 8am-12pm Saturdays, with a shared Saturday morning rota and time off in lieu, plus emergency cover only beyond these hours.
The role particularly suits a vet who enjoys a surgically biased caseload and brings a pragmatic, medical approach to decision-making. You'll develop surgical leadership skills in a supportive environment that values clear communication, collaborative case discussion and practical medicine. Swansea itself offers vibrant city life alongside the Gower Peninsula's beaches and coastal walks, creating an appealing work-life balance.
PDSA is a long-established charity providing vital veterinary care for pets of people in financial hardship. The Swansea hospital is a modern, well-equipped small animal practice with a collaborative, effective team culture that values case discussion and shared learning. Clinical interests across the team provide access to a wide pool of knowledge.
The hospital offers digital radiography, ultrasound, dental equipment, in-house laboratory analysers, dedicated cat and dog wards, two operating theatres, an isolation unit and four consultation rooms (one dedicated to nurse consultations and clinics). Surgery is a significant part of the caseload, with particular scope for orthopaedic work including fracture repairs, plating, elbow procedures and patella surgeries.
