Patient Care Assistant

About the Role

As a Veterinary Patient Care Assistant, you’ll be integral to delivering outstanding patient care at Pet Medics Worsley and Pet Medics Walkden. This full-time position offers 40 hours per week across both locations, putting you at the heart of the practice—supporting qualified RVNs and vets, managing patients, and maintaining the clinical environment to hospital standards.

You’ll find yourself doing hands-on work that directly impacts animal welfare: restraining patients for treatment, ensuring animals are comfortable and clean, preparing theatre facilities, and being the friendly face covering the reception desk when needed. It’s varied, meaningful work in a first-opinion practice setting where your contributions are genuinely valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and registered veterinary nurses with patient restraint during examinations and treatments
• Provide routine patient care including feeding, walking, cleaning and general welfare checks
• Prepare and maintain emergency and operating theatre facilities to clinical standards
• Support internal laboratory sample processing
• Undertake reception duties including appointment scheduling, client queries and payment handling
• Maintain high standards of general cleanliness and infection control across both practice sites

Requirements

• Strong communicator with genuine empathy for animals and their owners
• Excellent customer service skills and experience interacting with the public
• Practical experience in animal care—feeding, cleaning, handling and understanding animal welfare needs
• Ability to remain calm and compassionate when dealing with emotional or distressing situations
• Positive attitude with excellent teamwork and reliability
• Right to Work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available for this role)
• Experience in a veterinary environment desirable but not essential
