Veterinary Internship - Surgery

About the Role

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is looking for a motivated veterinary surgeon to join its surgery internship programme. You will rotate between soft tissue, orthopaedic surgery and the out of hours service over a 12 month period, gaining experience in a specialist-led referral hospital in the heart of the New Forest.

This role is designed as a first step towards specialist training, with the opportunity to develop clinical, professional and academic skills while working as part of a multidisciplinary referral team. The hospital also provides rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy with an underwater treadmill.

The working pattern is full time, 40 hours per week, with an on-call rota, and the role includes out of hours and weekend duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Rotate between soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery and the out of hours service.
• Support the management, monitoring and treatment of patients during the internship.
• Work with specialists under supervision in a referral hospital setting.
• Take part in out of hours and weekend duties.
• Contribute to teaching, research and clinical governance activities.

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and registration with the RCVS.
• At least 2 years' experience.
• Completion of a rotating internship, a surgical internship, or both.
• Strong organisation and time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• A reflective, self-directed approach to learning and professional development.
• Resilience, adaptability and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure clinical environment.
