Lead Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

St Mary’s Veterinary Clinic is looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team at an exciting point for the practice. The role offers variety, autonomy and the chance to help shape the next chapter as St Mary’s and Aniwell Vets come together.

You will be working with a diverse small animal caseload across medicine and surgery, with cases ranging from routine work through to emergency and critical care. The role includes clinical freedom to manage your own cases, plus support from an experienced team and referral pathways when extra support is needed.

Full time hours can be worked across four or five days, and part time applications are also welcomed. The rota includes 1 in 3 Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 12:30pm, with no out of hours or on-call commitments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead clinical work within a first opinion small animal practice.
• Manage a varied caseload across medicine, surgery and emergency and critical care.
• Take cases from initial presentation through diagnosis and treatment.
• Work across two established practices as St Mary’s and Aniwell come together.
• Contribute ideas that help shape how the practices develop.
• Use referral pathways when additional support is needed.

Requirements

• Experience as a veterinary surgeon in first opinion practice.
• Interest in a lead role with clinical input and practice shaping responsibilities.
• Ability to manage your own cases with clinical freedom.
• Comfort working across medicine, surgery and emergency and critical care.

About the Practice

St Mary’s Veterinary Clinic has been caring for pets and supporting the local community for many years, building a loyal client base and a strong reputation. The practice is part of inspiring vet care, within IVC, and is entering a new chapter alongside its sister practice, Aniwell Vets.

The caseload includes cats, dogs, rabbits and the occasional exotic. The practice also has digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and a fully equipped in-house laboratory, with a full refurbishment planned for St Mary’s.
