Veterinary Surgeon, Small Animal

About the Role

Join Sundean Vets Hartpury as a part-time veterinary surgeon, working Tuesdays and Fridays (09:00 to 19:00), totalling 19 hours per week. You will be sole charge on these days, supported by a dedicated nurse and reception team, with additional backing from other Sundean branches. This role offers a perfect balance between consulting and operating on routine and occasional urgent cases, providing variety and engagement throughout your working week.

The Hartpury site is a purpose-built branch currently in a period of development following recent staff changes. This is an exciting opportunity for a vet who enjoys autonomy, teamwork, and contributing to the growth and future direction of a branch practice. The area combines the convenience of being less than 30 minutes from Gloucester and Cheltenham with the appeal of surrounding countryside, making it ideal for those seeking both rural and urban lifestyle benefits.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality primary care across a varied and rewarding small animal caseload
• Work collaboratively with the wider practice team including nurses and reception staff
• Manage routine medical and surgical cases with growing confidence and clinical skill
• Develop your clinical interests while sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues
• Contribute positively to the clinical culture and ongoing development of the practice
• Build effective relationships with clients and provide excellent patient care

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong communication skills and ability to build effective client and colleague relationships
• Proactive approach to learning with openness to feedback and development
• Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

The practice is a purpose-built facility with excellent modern equipment including an in-house laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiography, and K-laser. The team includes clinicians with interests in imaging and small animal medicine, fostering a collaborative environment that supports continuous growth and learning. Regular clinical club meetings during working hours provide opportunities for vets to collaborate on cases and share knowledge.

The practice handles dogs, cats, rabbits, exotics, and wildlife. After-hours emergency cover is provided through Woods Vet Hospital.
