🕐 Schedule & Rota

Out-of-hours only position. Rota pattern: 1 week on / 11 weeks off / 1 week on / 9 weeks off (22-week cycle). Shifts: 7pm–8am. Sole charge duties including call triaging and phone answering.

About the Role

This is an out-of-hours RVN position with an unusual and flexible rota pattern: 1 week on / 11 weeks off, then 1 week on / 9 weeks off (22-week cycle), working 7pm–8am shifts. You’ll be joining a passionate team at a busy small animal hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, where emergency and critical care cases are the norm and no two nights are the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work confidently in sole charge, triaging calls and answering phones during night shifts
  • Monitor anaesthetics and provide stabilisation and nursing care for emergency and critical cases
  • Support all aspects of patient care and clinical work alongside the out-of-hours veterinary team
  • Deliver exceptional care to patients and reassurance to their owners during stressful situations
  • Maintain high standards of practice in the hospital environment
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and out-of-hours partners
  • Contribute to a positive, welcoming team culture

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Registered Veterinary Nurse
  • Demonstrated experience and genuine interest in emergency and critical care
  • Confidence working in sole charge during out-of-hours shifts
  • Ability to work night shifts (7pm–8am) on the specified rota pattern
  • Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills
  • Passion for delivering high-quality patient care and supporting colleagues
