Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

Vet On The Hill is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join their close-knit small animal practice in Caterham, Surrey, just 20 minutes from Central London. This fixed-term contract role offers genuine flexibility on hours (full-time or part-time) and start date, making it ideal for someone returning to practice after a career break, an experienced locum looking for a regular base, or a vet with a strong surgical interest.

You'll be part of a supportive team that genuinely communicates, celebrates wins together, and processes difficult cases collaboratively. The practice has temporarily expanded its need due to two vets on maternity leave, and they're looking for someone experienced to maintain their high surgical standards and strengthen their consulting team.

This role has potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality small animal consultations and surgical procedures
• Contribute to the practice's surgical caseload with particular strength in theatre work
• Work collaboratively with a skilled nursing team described as supportive, knowledgeable, and committed to excellent patient care
• Maintain the practice's standards of care across both routine and complex cases
• Participate in a team culture that actively supports colleague wellbeing and case discussion

Requirements

• RCVS registration as a veterinary surgeon
• Experience in small animal practice
• Strong surgical skills or demonstrable interest in theatre-based work
• Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a supportive team environment
• Flexibility and willingness to discuss bespoke arrangements
