About the Role
Veteris is an innovative emergency veterinary service provider operating 24/7 intensive care and mobile units across North London. This is a fully remote leadership opportunity focused on managing and developing the Triage Team, a group of Registered Veterinary Nurses who handle all emergency calls and provide clinical guidance to pet owners. The training period will be hybrid (3-6 months), then entirely remote, giving you flexibility while building a world-class team.
As Head of Triage, you won't provide direct patient care. Instead, you'll oversee call quality, mentor nurses through complex cases, maintain the clinical knowledge base, manage rotas for 24/7 coverage, and report performance metrics to leadership. This is ideal for an experienced vet who thrives on team development, strategic thinking, and improving systems rather than clinical hands-on work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Triage Team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, ensuring empathetic and clinically accurate guidance on emergency calls
- Oversee call quality and clinical standards, identifying best courses of action for each situation
- Train and mentor the team continuously, keeping them updated on clinical standards and emergency scenarios
- Maintain and update the internal knowledge base to keep it a current resource
- Manage team rotas to ensure consistent 24/7 coverage and support
- Serve as the escalation point for complex cases, providing clinical support and second opinions
- Monitor call volumes and team performance metrics, reporting insights to the Executive Team
- Act as liaison between the Triage Team and Executive Team, implementing strategic initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement in team operations and emergency care protocols
Requirements
- Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with significant experience in clinical practice and emergency care
- Minimum 3 years' veterinary experience (required)
- RCVS registration (required)
- Proven leadership experience managing veterinary teams, ideally with focus on developing Registered Veterinary Nurses
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of supporting team members and pet owners during stressful situations
- Strong organisational abilities with expertise in scheduling, performance analysis, and protocol development
- Ability to make quick, decisive decisions in urgent scenarios
- Strategic mindset to drive improvements and innovate care standards
