🕐 Schedule & Rota

No out-of-hours shifts. No Sunday working. 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (9am–1pm) only, with time off in lieu or extra pay.

About the Role

This is a hands-on RVN position in a purpose-built, small animal clinic nestled in the charming market town of Hertford. The practice operates Monday to Saturday mornings only—no out-of-hours, no Sundays—with flexible shift options to suit your lifestyle. You’ll work alongside a close-knit team of two vets, one other RVN, two care assistants, and a receptionist, where everyone knows your name and your contributions genuinely matter.

With 30-minute appointment slots for non-routine cases and regular visiting specialists in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, and orthopaedics, you’ll have real opportunity to deepen your clinical skills and learn from varied presentations. The pace is deliberate and sustainable—designed so you can deliver excellent care without burnout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care across anaesthesia, inpatient wards (separate cat and dog facilities), and theatre
  • Conduct nurse-led consultations and support client education
  • Manage laboratory work and diagnostic support with in-house equipment (digital X-ray, ultrasound, microscope)
  • Collaborate with the two-vet team and head nurse to maintain clinical standards and team morale

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
  • Competence across all areas of veterinary nursing, including anaesthesia
  • Confidence running nurse consultations and supporting client education
  • Strong team player with a proactive, compassionate approach
  • Keen to pursue professional development through CPD or further qualifications
  • Organised and reliable

Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £30,000 depending on experience
  • Welcome Bonus: £1,000 (paid at 3 and 6 months)
  • Work-Life Balance: No out-of-hours, no Sundays, 1 in 3 Saturdays (9am–1pm) with time off in lieu or extra pay

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Funded and supported CPD and professional development
  • Company pension scheme
  • Contribution towards private healthcare
  • 20% staff discount at Vets for Pets, Pets at Home, and The Groom Room
