Ready to join a supportive five-vet team where work-life balance actually matters? Located steps from Weymouth beach with no out-of-hours shifts, protected lunch breaks, and genuine flexibility—this is small animal practice done right.

🕐 Schedule & Rota

1 in 4 Saturdays only; no overnight on-call or out-of-hours shifts

About the Role

Weymouth Vets for Pets is seeking an experienced veterinary surgeon to join their five-strong team. This is a daytime-only role (1 in 4 Saturdays, no overnight on-call) in a practice that has invested significantly in both facilities and people. You’ll work alongside vets with over 40 years of combined experience, including an Advanced Practitioner in Medicine, supported by a stable, long-standing nursing and reception team who’ve been with the practice for years.

The practice is particularly interested in candidates with laparoscopy experience or enthusiasm to develop this skill. Recent equipment additions include a Vetus 50 ultrasound with colour Doppler, ECG, and K-Laser, with laparoscopic equipment on the horizon. You’ll have the clinical support, caseload, and CPD backing to grow your interests here.

Based just a five-minute walk from Weymouth’s sandy beach, this location offers genuine opportunity to enjoy your lunch break and unwind after shifts. The practice is run by hands-on vets who make decisions for the clinic—not a corporate distant decision-making process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide primary small animal veterinary care across a range of routine and surgical cases
  • Contribute to the clinical development of the practice, with opportunity to lead or develop laparoscopic techniques
  • Support and mentor newer graduates and colleagues—the practice values a collaborative, teaching culture
  • Participate in regular clinical and non-clinical team meetings where your voice shapes practice improvements
  • Work within a five-vet structure where colleagues actively support one another
  • Maintain high standards of patient care and safety across the newly extended facilities

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with current RCVS registration
  • Experience in small animal practice
  • Interest in laparoscopy or enthusiasm to develop this skill with support
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and mentor newer colleagues
  • Professional approach to patient care and clinical standards

Benefits

  • Salary up to £80,000 FTE (depending on experience)
  • No out-of-hours shifts—1 in 4 Saturdays only
  • Protected lunch breaks
  • Flexible working arrangements where practicable
  • Focus on genuine work-life balance
  • CPD support and access to specialist equipment for ongoing clinical development
  • RCVS accredited nurse training practice—professional development culture throughout
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment with stable, experienced colleagues
  • Coastal location with excellent lifestyle appeal

About the Practice

Weymouth Vets for Pets is a locally owned small animal practice run by veterinarians who work directly in the clinic. Over the past two years, the practice has extended its facilities to include a dedicated dental suite, upgraded imaging room, larger waiting area, additional consultation rooms, kennels, and a dedicated colleague space. Recent equipment investments include a Vetus 50 ultrasound with colour Doppler and ECG, plus a K-Laser, with plans for laparoscopic equipment.

The practice is RCVS accredited for nurse training and genuinely invests in team development. The five-vet team brings over 40 years of combined experience, supported by a brilliant, long-standing nursing and reception team. The practice manager has been with the clinic for over 11 years, reflecting stability and a culture where people stay. Former graduates consistently describe the practice as a supportive, collaborative environment where new clinicians develop confidence and clinical skills while maintaining work-life balance.
