Lead Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

This Lead Veterinary Nurse position in Middlesbrough offers the chance to lead a large team of veterinary nurses and clinical support staff in an already well-established clinic. It is a full-time role at 40 hours per week, with clinical shifts on weeknights, 1:2 weekends and bank holidays, plus dedicated time for management duties and meetings.

Shifts include Monday to Sunday night shifts from 19:00 to 09:00, Saturday day shifts from 12:00 to 19:30, and Sunday day shifts from 08:30 to 19:30. You’ll be supporting a busy emergency and critical care setting while developing and coaching the team around you.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day work of a large team of veterinary nurses and clinical support staff.
• Maintain patient care standards during clinical shifts.
• Support the Practice Manager, Area Clinical Manager and Lead Vet with clinical standards and improvements.
• Maintain strong relationships with host practices through regular communication.
• Oversee quality control of clinical equipment.
• Manage team welfare, mentoring, appraisals, performance and return-to-work tasks.
• Contribute to the clinic’s day-to-day operational and financial management.

Requirements

• At least two years’ experience in an out of hours and critical care environment.
• Proven experience of managing others, ideally in a veterinary setting.
• Demonstrable experience of managing performance.
• Motivation to maintain high clinic standards.
• A genuine passion for caring for clients and their pets.
