About the Role

Village Vet is seeking a welcoming and adaptable Veterinary Receptionist to work across their five Cambridgeshire practices as a float position. You’ll be the first point of contact for clients and their pets, managing the busy reception desk across Milton, Longstanton, Cottenham, Royston, and Whittlesford. This is an ideal part-time role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and genuinely enjoys working with people and animals.

The position suits individuals with strong customer service instincts and the flexibility to rotate across multiple locations. You’ll need to be proactive, enthusiastic, and comfortable adapting to different practice rhythms—managing high-volume periods with ease while maintaining composure during quieter spells.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome clients and their pets to reception, maintaining a professional, pleasant and courteous manner at all times
  • Manage appointment bookings efficiently and professionally across all five locations
  • Answer and make calls to practices, insurance companies and clients with consistently high customer service standards
  • Handle a range of administrative duties to support the day-to-day running of the practices
  • Monitor financial control and follow up with clients regarding outstanding payments
  • Work competently with practice management systems and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in all tasks, even under pressure

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer-facing role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive, positive attitude with ability to work under pressure
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Competent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain professionalism
  • Comfort with flexible working across multiple locations
  • Previous veterinary experience is desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to learn new systems if no prior veterinary background
