Head Equine Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

Join Wendover Park Equine Vets as Head Equine Veterinary Nurse and take a central role in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting excellent client experiences. This full-time role runs 40 hours per week over five days, with shifts between 8:00am and 7:00pm on a rota basis. You'll also participate in the practice's out-of-hours service, providing weekday and weekend inpatient and telephone cover, with additional retainer payments available for overnight inpatient care.

Based in rural Buckinghamshire, you'll work alongside experienced in-house colleagues and visiting specialists, managing a varied equine caseload ranging from pony club ponies and leisure horses to competition animals. The practice prides itself on creating a positive working environment where staff feel genuinely supported, complete with staff kennels so you can bring your dog to work and enjoy lunchtime walks through the surrounding countryside.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead clinical nursing care for a diverse range of first opinion equine cases, from routine to complex procedures
• Support and maintain high clinical standards across the nursing team
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of patient care protocols within the practice
• Provide medical and surgical nursing expertise across the practice's equine theatre and treatment facilities
• Participate in out-of-hours emergency cover on a rota basis, including weekday and weekend inpatient care and telephone support
• Collaborate with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team to deliver integrated patient care

Requirements

• Registered with RCVS as a Veterinary Nurse
• Proven experience working in equine clinical practice
• Confidence in both medical and surgical nursing
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Strong organisational skills and effective workload management
• Proactive approach to professional development and continuous learning
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience is an advantage (not essential)
